Microsoft and GitHub Unveil Major PyCon US 2026 Presence with Pyrefly Integration
Breaking: Microsoft and GitHub to Showcase AI-Powered Python Tools at PyCon US 2026
Long Beach, CA – Microsoft and GitHub are set to make a significant splash at PyCon US 2026, scheduled for May 14–17 in Long Beach, California. The tech giants plan to unveil a groundbreaking integration of Pylance with Meta’s new Pyrefly type checker, alongside a packed schedule of hands-on labs and technical sessions.

“We are thrilled to bring the power of AI-assisted development to the Python community,” said Pamela Fox, senior cloud developer advocate at Microsoft. “Our collaboration with Meta on Pyrefly will transform how developers write and debug Python code.”
Key Announcement: Pylance + Pyrefly Integration
Attendees will get an exclusive first look at the integration between Pylance, Microsoft’s fast Python language server, and Pyrefly, Meta’s new type checker. The demo takes place at the Meta booth on Saturday, May 16, at 1 p.m. local time. The feature is currently in early preview in the Insiders build, with a public release planned later this year.
“This integration will provide real-time type checking and performance improvements that were previously impossible,” explained Marko Hotti, senior software engineer at Microsoft. “It’s a game-changer for large-scale Python projects.”
Hands-On Labs at the Booth
Microsoft’s booth will host 10-minute interactive labs covering:
- GitHub Copilot – AI pair programming for Python
- Azure DocumentDB – NoSQL database integration
- Microsoft Foundry – Enterprise AI platform
- Microsoft Agent Framework – Building autonomous agents
- Azure PostgreSQL – Scalable relational database
- Azure AI Search – Intelligent search solutions

Background
PyCon US is the largest annual gathering for the Python programming community, attracting thousands of developers, educators, and industry leaders. Microsoft has been a long-time sponsor, focusing on integrating Python into its Azure ecosystem and developer tools. The addition of Pyrefly support continues a trend of deeper interoperability between Microsoft and Meta’s open-source AI projects.
What This Means
For Python developers, the Pylance-Pyrefly integration promises faster, more accurate type-checking—critical for maintaining large codebases. The hands-on labs offer immediate practical experience with cutting-edge AI tools like GitHub Copilot and Azure AI services. Attendees can expect to leave with actionable insights and code that runs more efficiently. The education summit sessions also highlight Microsoft’s commitment to lowering the barrier for AI education in Python.
“We want every developer—from students to professionals—to have access to world-class AI tooling,” said Sarah Kaiser, principal software engineer at Microsoft. “This integration is just the beginning.”
Mark your calendars: PyCon US 2026 runs May 14–17 at the Long Beach Convention Center. Booth visits and labs are open to all attendees.
